Monday
Pizza Night at The Mill
5-8pm; 736 Divisadero St, San Francisco, CA 94117
The Mill, a beloved local coffee shop during the day, stays open late on Monday’s for a pizza night. They typically have two flavors of pizza – cheese and the night’s special – which is made on their homemade bread that they are so famous for in the city. They serve beer and wine if you’d like to get a drink as well. Be prepared that it is typically very busy so you may need to wait a little to find a table to sit and eat.
They also offer pizza making courses which you need to book in advance here.
Bingo Night at Fly Bar
7-9pm; 762 Divisadero St, San Francisco, CA 94117
Fly Bar hosts Bingo each Monday night, with just a $1 fee for a fun colored marker to use if you don’t bring a pen yourself. There is no food or drink requirement and the winner of each round gets a free shot/drink.
$1 Oysters at Novela
4-7pm (or until sold out); 662 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94105
Novela is one of the very cool bars in SoMa, featuring a literary theme with a book-lined wall and literary play on cocktails. They have amazing signature drinks and on Monday do $1 oysters starting at 4pm. This is just a short walk away from many of the offices downtown making it easy to go with co-workers.
Tuesday
$6 Movie Tickets at AMC – Metreon and Kabuki Theaters
For AMC account holders, which is free to create, all 2D movies are just $6 on Tuesdays and a $5 mini combo of popcorn + a drink. There are two AMC theaters in San Francisco include the AMC Metreon and AMC Kabuki.
$9 Mini Golf at Holey Moley
Holey Moley (previously Urban Putt) is one of the coolest mini golf courses in the Bay Area, which is all indoors and has very unique and SF-centric courses. These aren’t your everyday courses with your ball sometimes going through multiple loops, on the wall, and even being shot at through a virtual screen depending on the course.
During the week, they have a great happy hour menu with $5 select drinks and 50% off an 18-hole game on Tuesdays. You just have to buy the game online before going to get the discount!
Wednesday
Trivia Night at Danny Coyle, The Pig and Whistle
668 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117; 8-10pm
There are a lot of trivia nights happening in San Francisco, but a favorite is Danny Coyle which is an Irish pub located in Haight. The Pig and Whistle is another local favorite and is on Polk street for those closer to the Marina/North Beach neighborhoods. This is such a fun activity with a group of friends with main question categories typically as: current events, sports, logos, songs, and two bonus categories.
For more detailed information on trivia nights available in SF by day, there’s a helpful calendar view here.
Castro Farmer’s Market (Seasonal)
270 Noe St, San Francisco, CA 94114; 4-8pm
The Castro Farmer’s Market is seasonal from March to November with local produce, breads, nuts, and flower stands coming to Noe Street for four hours every Wednesday evening. This is a smaller farmer’s market but has great options and is just a few blocks away from Duboce Park if you want to go for a walk or picnic afterwards.
Lucky Strikes Bowling
200 King St, San Francisco, CA 94107; All day
This bowling alley is right across from Oracle Park, offering modern bowling lanes and an arcade. On Tuesdays, they offer half off of all arcade games. While bowling is not discounted, I recommend also playing a game either before or after playing in the arcade.
Thursday
Cheaper Than Therapy Comedy Show
533 Sutter St, San Francisco, CA 94102; 7-10pm
Cheaper Than Therapy is a comedy club in SF’s Union Square with local comedians that come Thurs-Sun night in the Sheldon Theater. Tickets cost $25 but there is no drink minimum which is a big upside compared to many other comedy clubs in the area.
The show itself is typically 8-9:30pm but doors will open at 7pm. For more information and to buy tickets, head to their official site.
California Academy of Science: Nightlife
55 Music Concourse Dr, San Francisco, CA 94118; 7-10pm
Whether you’ve already been to the Academy of Sciences or not, visiting their late-night Thursday events is one of the best activities in the city. You’ll get to see all nocturnal species on-the-move and walk through a museum at night with great music and drinks. The museum has everything from an aquarium to rainforest to planetarium, and is located right in the heart of Golden Gate Park, making this a really fun excursion.
For more details on the event and tickets (which is recommend to buy in advance), visit their official site for the Nightlife events. Note that the event each week is 21+ due to alcohol being sold throughout the venue.
Exploratorium: After Dark
Pier 15 Embarcadero at, Green St, San Francisco, CA 94111; 6-10pm
The Exploratorium stays open late and limits guests to adults only (18+) every Thursday night from 6-10pm. There is tyoically a live DJ and food and drinks offered at their Seaglass restaurant and popup bars. This is a really cool way to experience the museum if you haven’t already, which has 650+ interactive exhibits.
You can view the official event calendar here.
Thursday Nights at SF MoMA
151 3rd St, San Francisco, CA 94103; 5-8pm
If you’re in the mood to walk through a museum and haven’t yet checked out the MoMA, check it out on Thursday nights which is the only day they stay open until 8pm. On the first Thursday of every month, they also open it up to Bay Area residents for free and bring live programs to go alongside the exhibits. For more details, here is their official site.
Everyday Monday – Thursday
Attend a Warrior’s or Giant’s Game
SF, home to the Giants and Warriors, host many home games throughout their respective seasons at Oracle Park and the Chase Center. This can vary from $ to $$$ depending on your seats, but if you’re on a budget I’ve gotten baseball tickets for as low as $8 and basketball tickets for as low as $40.
Host a Bonfire at Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach has 16 fire pits in the sand which are open and free to public use from March 1st to October 31st. In the warmer months, these can get pretty busy and are packed with groups playing games, making s’mores, listening to music, etc. Note that the police are firm on all fires being putout by 9:30pm which they will enforce on the dot.
Have a Sunset Picnic at Alamo Square Park
Alamo Square Park has some of the best views of downtown and great vibes on warm evenings. You’ll typically find lots picnicing, using the tennis courts, walking their dog, or playing chess on the benches before the sunsets. This can be a very affordable activity by bringing drinks/food from home.
Spot on with this write-up, I really think this website needs much more attention. I’ll probably be returning to read through more, thanks for the information!
